Payment Standards

Annually updated by the Housing Authority of Okanogan County (HAOC) based on Fair Market Rent information published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

  • A payment standard is HAOC’s maximum allowable monthly assistance toward a family’s gross rent.

Gross Rent: Total of the (1) contract rent charged by the landlord; and (2) the utility allowance that HAOC credits to the family for those utilities which the family is responsible.

  • Payment standards DO NOT determine, or limit, the rent a landlord may charge. The maximum contract rent a landlord may charge is based on the reasonable rent for the unit and the family’s income.

WHAT? The Housing Authority of Okanogan County’s Housing Assistance Payment Program makes guaranteed rent payments directly to the landlords’ bank account on-time each month! Housing Choice Vouchers provide rental assistance for eligible low-income families in the private rental market.

HOW? Voucher holders select a unit from the private rental market and the rental assistance provided by the HAOC helps make the market rate more affordable.  Voucher holders normally pay no more than 30% of their monthly adjusted income towards rent and utilities.  The Housing Assistance Payment subsidizes the balance of their rent directly to the property owner.
